Civil Design Engineer

Job Description

Our Water consultancy client is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to be based out of their Farringdon office on a permanent basis with hybrid working.\n\nYou will be contributing to the delivery of high‑quality infrastructure and treatment projects across water and wastewater. You'll support the delivery of projects from feasibility through to detailed design, working alongside experienced engineers and multi‑disciplinary teams. You'll be involved in a wide variety of civil and structural design activities and will have clear opportunities to develop your technical capability, project experience and progress towards chartership.\n\nYou'll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers and Technical Leads to help deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.\n\nKey responsibilities\n\nDeliver civil engineering design from feasibility through to detailed design\nPrepare supporting design calculations, technical notes and reports\nCoordinate and manage the preparation of technical drawings\nSupport delivery of projects to agreed programme, budget and quality targets\nTake responsibility for smaller projects or defined elements of larger schemes\nAssist with day‑to‑day financial and commercial management of engineering commissions\nApply relevant British Standards, water industry standards and GHD procedures\nWork collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary design teams\nShare knowledge and support the development of junior team members \n\nSkills/experience/qualifications\n\nYou'll be an early‑career civil engineer with a passion for water and infrastructure projects and a desire to grow your technical and professional capabilities within a supportive consultancy environment.\n2+ years' experience in civil engineering design, ideally within water and/or industrial sectors\nExposure to projects such as water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations or related infrastructure\nExperience preparing and checking high‑quality calculations, drawings and technical documentation\nWorking knowledge of British Standards and water industry standards\nFamiliarity with industry‑standard analysis and design software\nStrong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑focused approach\nDegree in a relevant engineering discipline\nWorking towards (or interested in attaining) Chartered Engineer (ICE) status\nExposure to design & build project environmentsBenefits\n\nSalary circa £40-50k but client open to discussion based on their view on experience\n25 days holiday plus bank holiday\nHybrid working options (2 days per week from home)\nDiverse and interesting projects across the UK water sector\nStructured learning, mentoring and chartership support\nA strong focus on safety, quality and sustainability\nA positive, inclusive culture that supports long‑term career development
